Production and Materials

Sidney Nolan
Hare in Trap, 1946
Ripolin enamel on board
90.5 x 121.5 cm
In the work of Sidney Nolan the landscapes of Australia feature predominately. Through his interpretation of the Australian landscape I believe that he has tried to capture the essence of the ruggedness and inhospitalpul nature of the land. Through using enamel, Nolan has painted onto a simple canvas and intrinsically portrayed contours and depth. Hare in a trap explores nature and the way that it can be portrayed and expressed in a two dimensional artwork. Nolan has used his knowledge of painting to show both abstract and realism qualities to convey this transition.

Patricia Piccinini
Subset- Blue Landscape, 1997
C-Type Print
31 ½ x 31 ½ inches
Piccinini is know for a type of artwork that comments on society as we know it. Through the use of both hand created models and human beings piccinini is able to create art emphasises the connection of reality and fantasy together as a comment on realism. Through the use of these models piccinini creates prints from photographs to exhibit her work. The small mouse like creates are created using wood, fibreglass and hair which personifies the creatures, creating a vivid link to the human.
